LATA – STEAM BOILER INSTALL

Morsey Constructors (Morsey) was award the Construction and Installation of Steam Package Boilers by LATA Environmental Services of KY, LLC (LATA) at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, Kentucky. Morsey begin the project under LATA supervision.  During the project, DOE awarded contract to Fluor Federal Services (Fluor) in which all current subcontracts were switched to Fluor including the Boiler Installation. Morsey then completed the project under Fluor supervision.

The steam boiler install job involved installing 5 portable boilers made by National Boiler Incorporated.  The 5 boilers were delivered on semis with fittings on the outside which were all tie-in points.  Tie-ins were made to existing steam lines, natural gas lines, fuel oil lines, and water lines.  There was approximately 2,200 linear feet of pipe installed.  Pipe size ranged from 1” lines to 12” steam lines.  Approximately 1,500 linear feet was insulated using Triangle Enterprises as a subcontractor.   Thirty percent of the scope of work was electrical.  Morsey subcontracted all electrical work to Beltline electrical. They were responsible for installation of power to each boiler. 

The project had an exemplary safety record.  There were no recordable or lost time incidents. A safety supervisor was on site full time for safety management. The project was classified as Quality Level 3.  Morsey provided a full time quality control representative to complete all required documentation. The project also included pipe bridges, pump work, civil work, excavation, seeding, steel re-work for stairs and trailer supports, and various instrumentation.  Morsey was involved with the start-up of the 5 boilers. The start-up was successful as was the entire job.
